Our World - THE PRESSURE !!!!

As a mother of two teenage boys I am the first to admit I'm a little out of touch with the current struggles teenage girls are facing! You always hear about the normal "Body Image" issues but recently I read a number of articles in relation to the pressures of teenagers and all that this entails.  I was astonished to read some things that were brought to my attention but at the same time  I was happy that I had decided to read more in relation to what is really going on out there.

I personally, felt pressured just reading the articles about the expectations of young women these days, especially teenagers, so I can't imagine what it is like for most of the girls.  It is no wonder so many teenagers are struggling so much.  What is expected of them sexually within their age group horrified me.  They are starting from such an early age (11 and upwards?) and it seems without too much respect for themselves at all.  The cigarette behind the cricket shed on the oval in my day has now been replaced by oral sex with many teachers reporting that this is happening on a regular basis.   It seems less and less they are thinking of themselves first and  it seems they are struggling with peer pressure and conforming to "Requirements of popularity" more than ever before.  I thought society was trying to teach them to be self loving and independent so what I have learnt to be the truth seems to defy all of that.  It also seems that teenagers in general have little or no inhibitions at all and this acceptable to their friends especially.  It seems self respect went out the window with Facebook and text messaging - especially images.  This has made me even more determined to instil the morals of respect for all women so much more with my own boys.

Today I am more grateful than ever to be the mother of boys (which at times also isn't easy to say the least).  I have to admit I am not sure how I would cope raising girls.  I would love to hear from any parent that can tell me a different story when it comes to our children and the truth about what is happening in their lives.  I hear now that it doesn't matter too much if the opposite sex is there or not and many girls opt for the same sex if need be without batting an eyelid.  Needless to say all of this has left me confused and with an overwhelming feeling of naivety. Is this really the truth?

Working full time, spending weekends doing the housework and for the rest of the time trying to fit in something that resembles actually having a life, I realised I haven't spent as much time as I would like taking in the transformation of our world as we know it.

Weeks go by and other than work, sometimes it feels like my only exposure to the real world is a trip to get the petrol.  I don't even grocery shop any more. Sometimes more expensive I know, but the convenience of shopping on line and having it delivered to your door far outweighs the time and effort taken struggling with rude inconsiderate people, long cues and screaming toddlers (Well most of the time).  I think the Technology we are now offered assists people more and more to become a recluse and only deal with the REAL world when they really have to.  Unfortunately this ensures you may become out of touch with reality.  But then again what is reality now?

Have you noticed that our world now seems to revolve around food, much more so in recent years than ever before or maybe it's just that I haven't paid enough attention.  We are constantly told what to eat, what not to eat, how to grow it, how to cook it, what can kill you and what can help you.  That too is an issue for me as my diet or lack of, leaves alot to be desired. Regretfully,I have fallen too many times into the trap of getting something on the table, not necessarily the most appropriate meals in any way to ensure more time for other things.  This concerns me and I promise myself every week to try and make more of an effort but its seems tiredness and lethargy always gets in the way.  Understandably it's a catch 22 isn't it?

At one time we all thought that the measurement of success was the amount of money you made and the things you accumulated along the way.  As the saying goes "He who dies with the most toys wins!".Overall and sadly, this hasn't changed too much its just that now the things we accumulate are less (in an attempt to live minimalistically) but each item purchased is just more expensive.  Many families struggle these days to maintain the amount to just cover the bills, so less and less is spent on holidays and items that we now consider luxuries in life.  I myself had my first real holiday in 10 years last year.  Another perk of being a single parent. - no extra funds available to enjoy life the way you would like to.  I have also noticed there are many more suicides now in relation to marriage separation and the pressures of financial stability for families.  The pressure seems so huge for everyone.

For our children, social pressure begins and effects them long before the financial pressures kick in so I often wonder what sort of adults these children will be later in life.  What can you suggest to help our children and encourage them to still retain self respect and respect for all others whilst battling the daily pressures that life in general delivers them?

On the up side I think we all have the ability to make our lives bearable.  I think the secret to this is to try to worry less and make time for ourselves outside of all these tremendous responsibilities. By doing this our kids will learn the importance of this long before we ever did.  We can certainly set an example for them without feeling selfish.  I think it is essential for self preservation if nothing else.  I would appreciate any suggestion you have in regard to this.  What is your favourite time out?

What have you noticed about the changes in our world that you like or dislike?

Your Bestie - What would you do without them?

What would you do without your “Bestie”? What if they weren’t here anymore? What are the words you wished you would have said?

Many women have said that they can tell their best friend “ALL”.  More than their sister, more than their husband or partner even more than their own Mother.

It would be wonderful to hear from anyone about their Bestie and what they mean to you.  Literally where would we be without them.  I can’t imagine a world without mine.  I honestly know that I wouldn’t have survived many things in my life without her.

I am sure there are many of you out there that have wonderful stories to share and I’d love to hear from all of you.

What is the funniest thing you ever did together?
What is the biggest secret you share?

What did you get her on her last birthday?

What did she get you?
What have you learnt from each other?

Who had the worst date?
Who had the best pick up line?

Who got the best bargain this year?
How much do you know about each other?

Who eats the most chocolate?
What is something you’ve told your “Bestie” that you could or would never tell anyone else?

So many questions so little time LOL.  Now surely I can get some comments with this one either here or on Facebook!

Can’t wait to see your comments or hear your thoughts.  We are all so grateful for our best friends, but don’t ever forget to tell them just how grateful you are. :) xxxxx

Your Life's Purpose

Are you doing what you love?  Do you look forward to going to work every day?  Do you feel you are making a difference?  Do you feel appreciated?
I would love to hear from anyone who has found their life’s purpose along with the challenges and determination it took to get to where you wanted to be.
Recently a friend of mine completed her University Degree and whilst this was extremely hard and challenging for her, as a bystander, 4 years seemed to fly by.  I am astonished at how she put her mind to it and just did it and the short time it took in comparison to the rest of her life.  She has now secured her first job and I know she is looking forward now to the rest of her life with achievement and purpose with her every step of the way.  I not only envy her, but I am inspired by the trials and extreme challenges she had to go through to get where she wanted to be.
I find personally there is always an excuse that I find to prevent me from following what I believe to be my life’s purpose.  Mother to two children, a mortgage and bills keep me tied to a job that on a weekly basis provides me with enough just to get by.  I do love my current job but there is always that fight within me that wants to do more and a knowing that this is not what I was put here to do.
I think the fear of failure, lack of financial security and the fact that I am not only  just looking after myself and I have two other people to consider in the decisions I make, makes me less inclined to step out of what I refer to as the Safety Box.
Do you struggle through knowing that you could be doing something totally different if only finances and circumstances would let you? Or have you been strong enough and thrown caution to the wind and jumped straight in without any knowledge of how it was going to happen and only the trust that you know it will come to fruition.
We all have dreams and of course I have learnt, that it is only us that can make our dreams a reality, so why do we put our life on hold until…..  Before you know it, 10 or 20 years have flown by and there is still that until….
Each and every one of us is given a special gift, something we enjoy or something we are just extremely good at, but how many of us actually use the gift we’ve been given.  If you have delved into yourself your life’s purpose usually can be found around the things you love to do or things that interest you.  I think that’s just a hint to let you know the direction to follow but getting to the actual destination is sometimes not so easy.
I am constantly inspired by people’s determination to make their dreams come true.  Many may be knocked down 3-4 times before they get it right but instead of stopping the first of second time it didn’t work, they just persisted and kept going.
What steps have you taken to follow your dream?

MOTHER'S DAY FOR A SINGLE MUM

Here in Australia it’s MOTHER’S DAY tomorrow.  So I just wanted to ask anyone who reads this to do me a little favour. That is to send a text, email or Facebook/Twitter message to any friends you know are Single Mums.
Mother’s Day can be a very difficult day for some single mums as they most times don’t have the finances to splurge on themselves.  If they have little ones they often don’t have the spare change to give them to be able to buy that little something, which I know the children would love to do.  Most times family will step in and buy a little something from the children but there are certainly A LOT of single Mum’s out there that will go without the normal accolades that Mother’s Day would normally bring.
The gorgeous and unforgettable gifts that are normally made at school with the Teacher’s assistance, never go unnoticed or unappreciated, but if you can just send a little message to acknowledge that you are thinking of them, this would be enough it itself to make one single mum very happy on her special day.
I know many single Mum’s dread Mother’s Day as it most times it is just thwart with disappointment. Memories of how things used to be flood back and if they don’t have family around them it can be a very difficult and trying day especially if their children are extremely young.  Bear in mind that they too would love to be taken out for Breakfast, lunch or Dinner, showered with gifts, hugs and kisses but unfortunately this is not always the case.
To all those strong and super single Mum’s out there I would like to personally wish you a WONDERFUL MOTHERS DAY and send you all the love, support and encouragement you deserve.  You are doing an absolutely fantastic job! So HAPPY MOTHERS DAY and please know you are loved, appreciated and respected today and every day.
Love and care always

I AM "GR8FUL" FOR KIM SERAFINI

Let me tell you that we really do have angels here on earth.  One that I have been privileged and honoured to  know personally,  Kim Serafini.  Over the years I have read and listened to many, many, many books, CD’s and literature pertaining to the ways to get the most out of  this life we live and I can honestly say that no one has touched my heart more than this person and the beliefs that she shares.
The things she speaks of seem to emanate from a soul that has been here long before any of us.  This inspiring, strong, supportive and, intelligent individual inspires others beyond belief on a daily basis . Some may tell her just how immense the effect of just being around her can be, some may not, and I have to admit I didn’t.
Her unrelenting support is never centred around one certain person or group of people. In Kim’s world any sort of discrimination simply does not exist.  It doesn’t matter who you are, where you’ve been, what you’ve done and what you have or don’t have. To Kim, everyone and anyone is “ONE” and her life’s purpose is to ensure your life is as wonderful and as happy as is humanly possible during the time we spend here.
This blog is my acknowledgement to her and how she impacted on my life alone, but in writing this I really wanted to take this opportunity to share this unbelievable TRUTH  with you .
The” iamgr8ful For Life” book, compiled by Kim could be considered “Little”,  but to say the impact it can have on your life is “Enormous” is an understatement.   Coupled with the “Iamgr8ful club” it can literally change your world.  I have included links to both the book and the site for you to see for yourself.
You can learn more about Kim by going to the “iamgr8ful” websites. (see links included)
Kim is literally testimony to the saying “If you truly believe you can do it, then you can!” Perseverance, trust, determination and above all, gratitude, can certainly ensure one very happy, rewarding  and joyous life.
I can only image what the world would be like if everyone knew all they had to do was just be gr8ful.

SINGLE PARENT'S SYNDROME

Single Parent Syndrome.  Does it really exist?

I have been a single parent for many years now and I often wonder if Single Parent'sSyndrome really exists? Personally I think it does. I have many friends and have spoken with far too many single parents to believe otherwise.
This week I swear I have Single Parent’s Syndrome.  I’ve been too tired to sleep, too full of thoughts to focus, at times too hungry to eat and partly too worried to think. In all honesty,  I have found myself  in the place where you wonder when it will ever get easier and what is the purpose behind all of this?  Being a long time single parent every year doesn’t seem to get any easier it just changes from one thing to another.  Financially, trying to keep up with the demands of the age of your children can be extremely stressful .  It seems the older they get the more money you have to find so your needs get put on the backburner even more so to speak.
I have wondered about this for many years and as I don’t have access to anyone’s medical records, I have one question for you.  Do all single parents suffer at one time or another with depression/anxiety or both?  I would really like to meet or hear from anyone who has been a single parent for over 2 years that doesn’t suffer from these overwhelming and sometimes unbearable feelings.  I may be sooooo wrong stepping out with this but I can honestly say that there is not one single parent that I know that doesn’t suffer from some sort of emotional effect that presents itself much more often than they would like.
I would love to hear from men especially that are single parents and see if they would agree.  Men handle their emotions so differently to women and maybe as a woman we could learn a thing or two from the way they deal with the challenges we all face.  I am in no way saying its easier for a single Father than a Mother but I find, only from personal experience alone, that  men very rarely show the signs of stress and emotional turmoil that us women do. I just want to know what their secret is.  I would sincerely be grateful for any men’s input on this blog.
There are so many things about being a single parent that contribute to our emotional wellbeing.  Let’s call them “Challenges”.  They are many and varied.  One thing I have found the hardest thing to deal with is the total responsibility you have in raising well mannered, considerate and caring individuals.  The responsibility is really yours, and yours alone, unless you have other adults living with you or very influential friends and of course an extremely supportive family.
One thing I have learnt along the way is that you can’t pass on what you don’t know.  So your own upbringing will have an extremely prevalent effect on your children whether you like it or not.  I also have learnt that you can only do the best you can and hope that somehow you manage to succeed.
I have always put the children first and foremost.  Something I am now learning isn’t always the best thing as you suffer physically and mentally and in turn become a parent that cannot be 100% you to your children. This is nothing new, I know, as I have heard many specialists and single parents comment on this very issue but when you are actually in it on a day to day, week to week, month to month basis, reality is very different.     Working fulltime and with most weekends spent doing the housework and preparing for the next week I find it hard to make the “me” time a lot of people refer to. I find any free time I get I end up doing more housework that I wouldn’t normally get t.  If not doing this I am spending time renovating the house to try and make our home as comfortable as possible for the children but of course within an extremely limited budget.  My renovations may not be perfect but I figure any sort of improvement is an improvement!  My time is so limited and I find that if I do take time out I suffer for it the next week.  As a parent in general you would know that without any sort of organisation things can become very stressful and overwhelming very quickly.
I would love to hear from all of you with suggestions or improvements we can all make to our lives as single parents.
Without a sounding board, normally being the other parent or partner that would normally contribute to the decision making within the family, you are literally on your own with every decision you make. Not only in regard to the children, but also for yourself.  It really is a huge responsibility.  I take my hat off to all single parents out there as I know first- hand how hard it can be.
With the downsides also comes the good as we know, but when a lot of things happen at once the responsibility yet again becomes foremost in your mind.
Please comment with your suggestions.  Just one comment can help many.  I look forward to hearing from you and remember tomorrow is another day and is always so different from today.  Remember you can also comment on Girl E Business on Facebook.

Love and care always

DIVORCE

Some of us have been through it and maybe some of us haven't.  It’s never an easy time for anyone I don't think, or I'm just yet to find that couple that has actually breezed through it.  What advice would you give to someone, based on your experience, who is about to go through a separation/divorce with small children.  Their inner strength will always get them through but seriously what sort of advice would you give to help make this transition easier for them?
One piece of advice I would give would be to prepare even before it happens. Prepare financially, legally, emotionally, mentally and physically.  (In all honesty something I never did – but certainly learnt my lesson for not doing so)  Remember this is imperative to both men and women.
Preparation is the key and it’s a really great thing to do even if a separation/divorce never transpires.  Find out everything you need to in order to know what is available to you and how to get it or information related to it.  By delving into your current situation you are able to really come to terms with who YOU are, and also who YOU would like to be in all sorts of ways.  You may through this process find out some things about yourself that you had forgotten or even something new about yourself you never knew existed.   It's a very good way to gain self- esteem and inspiration to get you where you need to be.   Being prepared gives you the feeling that you do have control every step of the way.
I remember when I divorced many years ago I was seriously shocked to find out that I didn’t even know what music I liked anymore and I certainly didn’t know what shows I like to watch or movies I’d even be interested in.  I realised at this time just how much I had put myself on the backburner, so to speak.  Today I know all of these things and soooooo much more about myself than ever before in my life.  It has certainly been a great journey of self awareness. The good, the bad, the ugly and the absolutely, positively  undoubtedly FANTASTIC.
By my own admission, in my ignorance and for many, many years I strongly believed that  there was a very fine line between misery and loneliness and that you just have to take steps to decide which of those you would like to encounter as they  weren’t  emotionally very far apart.   Now with a lot of experience and alot of  inner reflection I have, more recently, realised the line is actually even finer  between misery and happiness.  Challenges we face, the hills we have to climb and the pathways we choose in our life always guide us to learn new lessons (Which sometimes can take awhile before we actually get it!) and always guide us towards happiness of some sort shape or form in the long run.  As the saying goes “Out of Evil good will come”.
I really think it is important that you comment here to help others and hopefully discuss your own experience, mistakes and fortunes to enhance someone else’s experience.  We are always there for each after all.
I have noticed differences in many married couples that I graciously and proudly call my friends.  Some of them live together as a form of habit really.  Not really in love anymore but let’s just say comfortable with the norm.  Yet others who have been married for many years still emit that spark.  One thing I have noticed about these couples is that throughout their marriage they have always retained time for themselves.  These couples made the effort to always put some time aside for themselves, without the children, be it a night out for dinner, a weekend away or just a romantic night at home.  I think this is the secret.  I know if you spoke to these people they would openly say it’s hasn’t been easy but as a bystander looking in I find that that seems to be the secret to a successful marriage, the time of togetherness.
Another secret I feel is also ironically time apart.  I think to have time to miss your partner rekindles your appreciation for them. It also allows you to retain your independence and do the things you like that inspire you and you alone.  It is very invigorating to step away from being the mother, the wife or the carer and to be kind to yourself at the same time, albeit if only for a short time.  Sometimes is always better than never.
Your comments would be extremely appreciated.  Love and care always Girl E Business.xxx :)

LIFE WITHOUT A COMPUTER

Over the past 3 weeks I have been lets say ....Computerless.  I didn't realise how frustrating this could be.  My computer had to be sent away for the fan for the hard drive to be replaced.  Little did I know that the computer company would completely erase my hard drive.  Luckily I was able to back everything up before my hard drive crashed.

When the computer was finally returned and four hours later after re-installing everything, discussions with the computer company and being on hold with the Internet provider for over half an hour I have finally managed to get my computer back to some sort of normality.

I still have problems with IMAP folders if anyone is familiar with these, but generally all is OK it seems.

Its amazing how much you rely on your computer and what you can actually get done when you don't have it.  Although computers are supposed to be the ultimate tool in organisation, ironically I am more personally organised than I have been in a long time.  My house now looks clean and organised.  All that excess time has meant spring cleans, clean outs, and finding things of course I had forgotten I had.  I love that bit !

I know I couldn't live without my computer but it has certainly been a learning curve as to how much time we actually spend on here and I am now not so convinced it is such a good thing. OH with exception of the Girl E Business Blog Site. LOL  What do you think?

Queensland Floods - AUSTRALIA

Words are just so hard to find………….This week would have to be the most devastating and incredibly shocking week in many of our lives.

To the people who have lost loved ones our hearts go out to you. To all the sisters who lost her brothers, the families that lost their rock (their fathers), to the little boy who asked rescuers to save his little brother first before loosing his own life and his mother’s to the floods. To the Wives that has now been widowed, and to the Husbands  also, we might not physically be standing by your side right now but we are certainly with you in spirit.

We can’t explain why and could never pretend to understand or even contemplate how you would be feeling right now, nor would we ever try to.  We would just like to ensure you that we are sending so much love and support to you in the hope that you may just find the slightest bit of solace in all of this devastation.

Nothing will ever be the same but we can certainly make sure in some ways that it is better than before.  We need to ensure that not one person’s life was lost in vane and whilst they may no longer be with us they would certainly be proud of what we are about to achieve.

To the organisations, people and businesses who have contributed to the Flood fundraising, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! from everyone affected by this tremendous terrible disaster.

On a personal level we are QUEENSLANDERS.  Nothing can ever bring us down. We will not only rise to the challenge we will blitz it ! For every life that was lost our courage and determination will increase tenfold.

GO QUEENSLAND !!!!!!

I am aware that  there is no really no need to even ask, as you know the spirit that is within you, but please help where and when you can.  As the saying goes “Time is Money” but at this stage “Time” will be far more valuable to any one in need I’m sure.

We may have lost family, friends, valuables, our homes, food etc but this cannot stop us.  We can do this!

HAPPY NEW YEAR – New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s Resolutions – Do they actually work?  Personally I know many people set goals/resolutions for the new year and time and time again they fail.

I think setting yourself a New Year’s resolution/goal at this time of year is only adding to the stress and pressure the some of you may have already experienced with Christmas.

I try to set goals throughout the year, and this year in particular I will do my best to reach those goals but over the whole year not in one week from the 1st January.

How do you set out to achieve your goals?  How many do you actually fulfil?  I know a lot of people who set a goal, reach it and then create another goal for themselves.  This is a clever way as to not put too much pressure on yourself and it also enables you to work on one thing at a time.

Do you base your life on goals and achieving them or do you literally take each day as it comes?  I would love to hear everyone’s opinion on this as I am sure they would be vastly varied.  What sort of goal have you set for yourself for 2011?  Do you make a list or just keep them to yourselves? Without setting goals for ourselves how do we increase our knowledge or improve on ourselves at all?

Many of my goals for 2011 are more wishes than goals I think.  I have a lot of hopes for my family and friends which I think is just as important as setting goals for yourself.

I want to wish you all the very best for 2011, with or without goals or resolutions.  I would sincerely love to hear from any of you in regards to your views on this.

Together we can make anything happen, Don’t you think?

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE !

Regardless of your goals and acheivements 2011 Is going to be the best year ever !!!

OPRAH IN AUSTRALIA & THE ACT OF GIVING..........

Hi to all the Girlies !!

Well I guess it’s better late than never to say goodbye to Oprah.  Whether you love her or not there is no way anyone who watched her over the past weeks could ever doubt her generosity or addictive, inspiring nature.

Christmas is, as we all know, a time of giving and one thing Oprah is, is the ultimate “GIVER”.  I also noticed she also suffers the Giver’s Disease, which is basically an uncomfortable reluctance to receive. “I don’t like surprises” she said in one interview.  The truth being not many real givers do.  They are much more comfortable in the giving mode rather than the receiving mode.  You see this regularly when surrounded by giving people.  I thought it was so apt for her to be here at this time of year and I loved the fact that they named the Opera house the “Oprah House” for a week. I do tend to love a play on words.

Strip her of the fortune and fame and I still believe that Oprah would be exactly the same.  Maybe the gifts wouldn’t be as exceptional but I have no doubt that she would still be giving. There aren’t too many wealthy people who you can truly say that about.  Her fortune, which I believe is truly deserved, just enables her to help and support others more.

I didn’t get the chance to see all of the coverage on her visit, but what I did see inspired me no end anyway.  Anything truly is possible and you just need to be open to that very thing whilst pursuing that dream you have held for most of your life.  I think everyone of us has a dream that we have held for a very long time.  It has mostly been hidden under the blanket of  the responsibility of parenthood, financial commitments, family commitments and most times our low self- esteem.    Nothing creates more happiness in the world that doing what you love, yet most of us just don’t.

We tend to make excuses all the time, like the lack of funds due to financial commitments or the ultimate excuse of all excuses “I’m too busy”. The fear of being thrown into a place we are not familiar with and sometimes the risk of our financial security, enables the excuses.  My ultimate goal for 2011 is to push myself to believe more in this very thing.  I am the first to put my hand up and say I constantly struggle with the fear of the unknown.  One thing that prevents me from moving forward has always been the 2 other little people lives I am playing with.  If it was just me and my decisions were only going to affect me then I think things would be very different.  The fact that I am responsible for the lives of the two others constantly enables excuses that have previously stopped me from moving forward.  2010 has been a great start, but I know and believe that 2011 will be so much more. So please stay with me as I jump of the cliff into the unknown so we can see what happens.  There I have done it. Now I have acknowledged that I can no longer linger in the fear of what might not be and move forward with my dream of what could be.  After all, I can now take comfort in the fact that I have the support of all the Girlies.

A friend of mine recently pointed out when we were discussing this topic that NO LIABILITY = NO PROFIT.  From a business perspective I can understand that but, I didn’t realise how much that really applies to life in general.  The Liabilities being our hardships, challenges, health problems etc.  The profits being what we learn from our experiences and how we utilise  that which we have learnt, love, happiness, and the assurance in knowing we are following our life’s purpose.  Once big piece of profit I appreciate is the ability to be able to acknowledge just how truly grateful we are for the good in our lives.  Sometimes when things are tough and life is hard, it becomes very difficult to still focus on all the good.  The good is always there though and always will be.  You just have to be remind yourself sometimes

I think if most of us could feel what it would be like to be doing what we loved, then we truly wouldn’t hesitate.  We would drop everything and go full steam ahead if we were actually assured we would be the happiest we’ve ever been, have financial security, be supported in abundance and be overwhelmingly proud and inspired by what we do.  I gain so much inspiration from the women and men who have literally followed their dream not matter what with the knowing they are doing what they love.

It has got me thinking that whilst I do try to give as much as possible, I still think this year I have missed something or there is something I still have to do.  I seriously wonder sometimes what this world would be like if even for just for one day only; every single human on the planet would do something for someone else.  I wonder if that was possible what the world would be like the very next day?  One of my ultimate dreams and yes I know, a big one, but it doesn’t stop me from wondering “What if?”

Givers come in all shapes and sizes and I am so appreciative of them as I am sure all the receivers are.  There is the lady who sacrifices every one of her Saturdays to visit the old people’s home and just be there to talk to the elderly.  There is the generous guy who forgoes 4 nights of his time to stand on the corner of the street be it rain, hail or shine to ensure that the homeless have a meal for the night.  There is the little child who shares their lunch with the child next to them because that day their parents didn’t supply any.  Givers stem from all generations and this can start from very early on.  I noticed recently an 18 month old picking up and handing one of her friends her toys to play with.  This simple gesture was enough for me to know that we can never say we didn’t know how to offer help or support to others, because it is something that is inbuilt in us from the very beginning.

Have you given to anyone recently?  What have you done this year to help others?  On a personal note I think I could have done a lot more but still I have a few little things up my sleeve.  I would love to hear your stories of what you did but also how you felt because of it.

As it is said “Pay it forward”.  It’s quite simple if you are fortunate to receive help or support in any way, just continue it and do for someone else. I can guarantee the feeling of giving will always far outweigh many of the feelings of receiving you have experienced.

Girlies, I say go forth and GIVE LOL  J

Love and care always,

THE LAW OF ATTRACTION

Hello Girlies!!!

I may be stepping outside the box with this for some of you at least, but I know for others involved in Girl E Business it is something you live by and a huge contribution to who you are.  Writing this I wonder how many of you are actually familiar with the Law of Attraction?

I watch and listen to people constantly saying things like “I hate my job!”, “I don’t have enough money”, “Nothing ever goes right for me” “No one cares” “I am so sick and tired” etc etc.  I have noticed this more prominently over the years, with the complete honesty in knowing that I was one of these people.  I now realise how debilitating this was to not only for my self-esteem but also to the people around me.  I was the ultimate VICTIM. I also am the first to admit I am a constant work in progress and will continue to be for all of my days.  I still find myself at times stepping into those thoughts and assumptions so for all of you that do this, know that you are not alone.  I am well aware that perfection does not and cannot exist.  I just truly believe that being aware of your demons, your insecurities and your thoughts is enough to facilitate a change for the better and this is never a bad thing !

For those of you that tap into this little tool called “The Law of Attraction” that is available to all of us I would love to hear your thoughts and some examples of how this has worked for you both now and in the past.

Unfortunately for some us, we have grown up surrounded by fear, dread, doom and gloom, negativity, abuse (in many forms) and sometimes neglect.  Our parents and family may not have had the best upbringing themselves and one thing I have learnt over the years is that you literally can’t pass on what you don’t know.  The only thing you can do is extend your knowledge so you can share your newfound insights with those around you.  Afterall, what you believe has an impact on all around you whether you are aware of it or not.

The Law of Attraction defines in a nutshell “What we think (believe) we create”.  As a child I think we are very much influenced by those around us and it’s not until much later, in life that we realise we really do have a mind of our own and what we can therefore be free to use it.  From the time we are born, even before we can speak, the beliefs, thoughts and feeling of others around us have begun to be absorbed.  We can only know what we know and know what we want individually from there.

For those who were fortunate enough to have a beautiful upbringing surrounded by loving and caring individuals then it simply means you just have a head start with this more so than many others.  What still remains though, is the question of how you utilize what you have learnt from your experiences in your life to propel yourself into your future, and in turn what sort of future that will be.

“If you do not attract what you want to be, you will be what you are, FOREVER”             – Ankur Sancheti

There seems to be many varying opinions as to who was the instigator of this insight, and many well argue that it has always been and is referred to in many scriptures, ancient writings, the bible and many other forms of literature in history regardless of denomination.  I just feel the fact that it is there at all, is the most important thing. We have a tool that we can tap into and utilise everyday if we choose to.  And if you choose not to, then that is OK also. Religious or not, anyone is free to utilise the Law of Attraction.  It literally has no boundaries or no discrimination.  The more you read, either from current writings or historical ones it has always been and always will be.

Personally I don’t believe there is one person on the planet that has a total belief system exactly the same thing as another.  That’s what makes us the individuals that we are.  I also believe that we all have the right to choose our own unique beliefs, inspirations and aspirations that makes us happy and so be it.

It doesn’t take too much to notice the people who aspire to be the best they can be with this little tool in their pockets, so to speak .  Some of these people include Rhonda Byrne, Wayne Dyer, Esther & Jerry Hicks, Earl Nightingale, Oprah, and Ankur Sancheti, (above). and many many others. There are now so many people to mention that it is impossible to list here.  As you can see from the quotes below, it was always there and many people knew it long before us.

Winston Churchill - You create your own universe as you go along.
Buddha - All that we are is the result of what we have thought.

Jesus - It is done unto you as you believe...

Albert Schweitzer  - Man must cease attributing his problems to his environment, and learn again to exercise his will - his personal responsibility.

Martin Luther King Jr - Take the first step in faith you don't have to see the whole staircase just take the first step.

Gandhi - Be the change you wish to see in the world.

One tremendous offering in regard to this law was undoubtedly  “THE SECRET” which regardless of the controversy  surrounding it, made a huge impact across the world for many men, women and children.  How many of you have seen “THE SECRET” and what were your thoughts?

We are all familiar with the saying “I’ll believe it when I see it”.  This is one saying I know was extremely prominent in my childhood.  I love the fact that Wayne Dyer named his book based on this saying, it is called “I’ll see it when I believe it”.

For the majority of people their lives are left to fate and they live without any aspiration to change how things are or better their lives.  They take everything as it comes.  Are you one of these people?  If so I would also dearly love to hear your thoughts in regard to this blog.  I would openly love to hear peoples thoughts and opinions, regardless of their beliefs as you can probably tell.

Whilst the “Law of Attraction” is available to all, it is not as simple as it seems.  There maybe a constant fight with your thoughts as many of us have been conditioned to think based on fear, lack and unworthiness.  I feel by just being aware of your thoughts you are making a step in the right direction anyway.  Changing something that has been part of you for most of your life is not easy and can be a constant battle to the end but just by trying, you can ensure you are doing the best for yourself and you can take comfort in that alone.

I have been witness to many people practising the “Power of positive thinking” which has miraculously helped them through times of illness, despair and heartache.  Some of these people have had a profound impact on my life and will continue to do so.  I am so fortunate to be surrounded by these wonderful people and I am so lucky to be able to witness first hand the remarkable achievements that come with positive thought.  Some of these people I refer to may not believe in the “Law of Attraction” even though they are literally practising it every day without even knowing it.  I love these people and am so inspired by the way they refuse to accept defeat even under the worst of circumstances.  It is truly amazing to know these people as they are the inspiration in my life and definitely the instigators of “Girl E Business” even if unbeknowns to them.

I sincerely hope you make comments this week so we can all have a discussion and share with each other which is the pure intention of Girl E Business.

Love and care always…………….

SPENDING CHRISTMAS ALONE?

This time of year is no doubt stressful for most people and other than the financial pressure, family pressures, there is also for some, the realisation that they will be spending Christmas alone.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being alone at Christmas.  Actually there are so many benefits,  Just look below:

·         You have no place to be and you can literally do anything your little heart desires.
·         There will be no arguments unless you get really cranky with yourself.
·         You get to have all the food and drinks to yourself.
·         You don’t have to be at 10 places at once.
·         You don’t have to spend a fortune on buying a ton a Christmas presents that you aren’t certain the person you are buying for will like.
·         There will be that peace and solitude that you’ve been wanting all year.
·         It’s the only time of the year you get to do absolutely nothing if you want to.
·         There is no worrying about driving through horrible, frantic, frustrating traffic.
·         There is just you and everything you are. Once you realise this you can make this the best Christmas Day ever, just for yourself, with absolutely no pressure, or commitments if that is what you want.

I myself have spent Christmas alone and I certainly made sure I wasn’t going to sit around feeling sorry for myself and doing the “Woe is me” scenario.  Hopefully some of you may be fortunate enough to be invited by friends or neighbours to share Christmas with them.  If not, then here are some options, with the unique Girl E Business twist that you may like to consider on the days and the weeks leading up Christmas:

PREPARATION

1.     Make sure you have bought all the comfort food you can handle.  All those naughty things you say no to all year, I hereby give you permission to buy these things and to eat them by the bucket load. LOL (Except of course if it is against Doctor’s orders)

2.    If you don’t plan on cooking or volunteering, book into a restaurant for Christmas Lunch.  Yes a table for one! You never know what can happen. Gone are the days that you would be looked upon as desperate or strange.  To your surprise you may find other “Table for ones” there also.

3.    Put up decorations.  Even if it’s just a few around the house, make sure you can feel a little of the Christmas Spirit.  Even better – make your own.  Come to think of it the last time I actually did, other than helping the kids, was probably around Grade 3.  Do you remember cutting up all those bits of coloured paper and making the ring chains to hang around the house? I remember the glue we used would run and I ended up having more colour on my hands than in the rings themselves.

4.    In the weeks leading up to Christmas go to the shops, get on EBAY whatever you have to do and buy something for yourself.  Yes just for you!  Something special too! Something that you wouldn’t normally let yourself indulge in. You deserve it!!  You have to promise me though that you will wrap it and NOT open it until Christmas Day.  Who said you can’t be your own Santa.

5.    Volunteer – Nominate yourself.  This is probably one of the most rewarding things you can do for yourself and others at Christmas.  There are many organisations in your area that provide meals for the homeless, elderly etc. on Christmas Day.  One thought that comes to mind would be to contact the Age homes or Services like Bluecare in your area. You may just benefit from spending an hour or so with a couple of people who, not unlike yourself, are alone at Christmas. This is probably the best Christmas Present ever, for yourself and them also.

YOUR BIG CHRISTMAS DAY

6.    Have a Sleep in.!  Yes a sleep in. Unbeknown to some women out there, this is actually a possibility and it is still practised in some households.  I know it maybe a rare occurrence and a dying art but trust me it does still exist for some people.  Even if you wake at your normal time, just stay in bed for that extra ½ hour, just because you can.

7.    Open your PRESENT!!!!  Laugh and pretend you have absolutely no idea what is in there.   LOLOL J

8.    Check the “Girl E Business” Blog page or Facebook page for inspiring Christmas Messages. Make your own comments on what you have planned for yourself today.

9.    Plan a pamper morning.  Make sure you have a nice relaxing bath, bubbles or bath bombs essential here.  Play some nice relaxing music, light the candles and put on your favourite perfume.  Yes I know, you think no one will smell it except you. But that’s the point!

10.  If you are able, get out and about today.  Don’t put any pressure on yourself whatsoever though. Even if it’s just a short walk, a trip to the park, the beach, just go out for a while, even if it’s only so someone walking past you can smell that perfume you put on.

11.  Cook something!  -  I am the first to admit I didn’t inherit the cooking gene in my family, nor the ironing one, and I am definitely not an avid recipe book reader, but if that’s what floats your boat, so to speak, then I’m all for it !!! Put some music on and put it on “Loud”.  This is the only day of the year the neighbours can’t complain about the noise.  With all that noise and the aromas of that wonderful cooking emanating from your home, it will give the impression that something is happening at your place (which it is). You might even get a visitor or two to see what’s going on LOLOL.  If you plan a fabulous creation for lunch and or dessert, then you certainly can take pleasure and comfort in the fact that you made it yourself.  Also remember to take the time to enjoy every single bit of it.

12.  Watch a “New Release”. Personally I prefer not to select a “Christmas DVD” as there is enough to watch on the television and hiring one really defeats the purpose of what you are trying to do today.  Choose something that will take you away for a while. A really nice “Chick Flick” or just one of your favourites that will warm your heart today especially.

13.  Read a little.  Grab a nice cup or coffee or tea and read something.  Anything really as long as you are relaxed and comfortable when you do.

14.  Now for LUNCH!  If you have volunteered you will no doubt be indulging in a beautiful roast meal and Christmas pudding with all the trimmings and sharing some wonderful stories with some very wonderful people.  But if you haven’t then you might have thought to book into a local restaurant to treat yourself a meal.  Yes all by yourself.  “Table for 1 please”.  You never know there might just be someone else there who also booked that table for “1”.  You might even be lucky enough to be invited by other patrons to join them. The possibilities are endless.  Now, if you haven’t done either of the above, I certainly hope you have made the best effort in following my point no 1 and bought as much comfort food as you can handle.  No one minds if you have chocolate and an a couple of iced donuts for lunch as long as you are happy. J

15.  Get on the “Girl E Business” Blog page or Facebook page again to check on comments and see what everyone else has been up to today.

16.   I hereby also give you permission to sleep the afternoon away if you like.  Have an afternoon “Nanna Nap”.  This is also a dying art but how long has it been since you’ve actually done it?

17.  Make a list of things you have been grateful for this year. Think of as many things as possible.  Start with being grateful for the Lunch you had today, that beautiful perfume you are wearing and the present you received this morning. J

18.  Write a list of goals and aspirations you have for the upcoming years ahead.  Don’t label them “New Year’s Resolutions” as I feel that this always put too much pressure on people.  Just a plan of things you might like to happen for you, things you might like to do, and ways you might like to help others.  With most people giving is always much easier than receiving as we know, but you must understand one thing this year, and that is that you deserve it.  You are loved and are an inspiration to many so make sure you don’t limit yourself to what you can achieve.

19.   Get on the Girl E Business Blog Page/Facebook, surf the net, play some games etc. etc.  Let your inner child play today, just like you did when you were younger.  If the kids are away, be it with the other parent, grandparents etc. then steal their PlayStation or Wii and go for it.  If you completely annihilate their highest scores, just act dumb when they come home. The last thing they would think is that you, of all people, would have been playing their games LOLOL.  Maybe you could say SANTA did it?

20.  Get on the “Girl E Business” Blog page or Facebook page again write everything you would like to share about your day.

21.   And last of all. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!  Enjoy your day and know that you aren’t alone and are lovingly thought of by all the “Girlies” involved with Girl E Business.

There are a number of websites that offer suggestions to people being alone at Christmas.  Whilst they may be vastly different to the “Girl E Business” suggestions LOL, you may like to check out a few of these links that I would like to share with you.
